Yuan Ming Yuan ruins and replica comparison |
|
|
Yuan Ming Yuan or Old Summer Palace in Beijing was destroyed by the British and French troops in 1860 during the Second Opium War. All left in the great garden which was once regard as the Garden of gardens is only scattered pieces of ruins. Anyway there is a private investment group Hengdian Corporation willing to spend 20 billion yuan (2.9 billion U.S. dollars) to build a full-scale mock-Yuanming Yuan at Dongyang, Zhejiang province. Beside this, there is already an existing replica build at Zhuhai, China.
